Saint-Saens was a major European composer and pianist of the 19th Century. He is best known for his work The Carnival of the Animals, and the opera Samson and Delilah. His students include Gabriel Faure and Maurice Ravel.
Gui was a respected conductor of the 20th Century, working with such names as Arturo Toscanini and Thomas Beecham. He founded the Maggio Musicale Florentino festival in 1933, and was the musical director of the Glyndebourne Festival between 1951-1963.
