Martinelli was regarded as one of the most famous tenors of the 20th Century. After Enrico Caruso’s death in 1921, he assumed many of his roles at the Metropolitan Opera in New York.

With her wealth she purchased the Theatre des Champs-Elysees and the Duchess of Marlborough Faberge Egg. She is considered to be the source for the character Susan Alexander in the film Citizen Kane.
